After completing a Bachelor of Science (Botany and Ecology) and quickly deducing that saving the world wasn’t going to pay the bills, Rachel took a ‘holiday’ and travelled to Marlborough to work her first vintage in 2017. Two weeks later she was hooked. The following years took her to Napa Valley, Mudgee (NSW) and Canada before coming home to study a Graduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Adelaide in 2017. Since then she has had stints in McLaren Vale, the Adelaide Hills and Sonoma Valley before moving to Coonawarra in 2021. Today she is the Assistant Winemaker at Penley Estate where every day she falls more in love with Cabernet and the region she now calls home.
