Dr Cath Kidman is a technical viticulturist at Wynns Coonawarra Estate, where she has been part of the viticulture team since 2011. In her role, Cath leads technical viticulture programs and contributes to research and development across the Wynns vineyards. Cath completed her PhD at the University of Adelaide, focusing on grapevine rootstocks, water stress, flowering and fruitset. Her work continues to centre on practical, vineyard-focused research, including vine water status, yield forecasting, heritage clonal material, and climate adaptation. Cath enjoys working with winemakers, growers, researchers and industry partners to connect science with the realities of growing grapes. Cath has received several industry awards, including ASVO Viticulturist of the Year in 2023, International Viticulturist of the Year for Women in Wine and Spirits in 2021, and both Gourmet Traveller Viticulturist of the Year and Australian Women in Wine Viticulturist of the Year in 2020. She contributes to the wider wine community through Coonawarra Vignerons, the Limestone Coast Grape and Wine Council, Wine Australia Research Advisory Council and the ASVO. Cath remains inspired by the opportunity each vintage brings, and by the important role viticulture plays in growing fruit that can become expressive, high-quality wine.
