Entry deadline looms for LC Wine Show
The deadline for entries in the 2010 Limestone Coast Wine Show is next Friday, September 3rd and wine producers are being reminded that registrations can be completed on-line at www.limestonecoastwine.com.au. Interest has been strong for the prestigious event which will be coastal-bound for its landmark 10th anniversary from 26-29 October 2010.
"We're embarking on a 'sea change' to the cool climate wine regions of Robe and Mount Benson, and we're looking forward to highlighting the diversity that exists within the region viticulturally while utilising a range of innovative venues over the four days," says chief steward Sarah Squire.
The new venue is part of a commitment to promoting the Wine Show as a multi-regional wine event encompassing the entire Limestone Coast. Judging will take place in the Kingston Town Hall, and Mount Benson's Norfolk Rise Winery will host a nautical-inspired trophy presentation feast on October 28. The high-profile judging panel chaired by the highly respected Australian wine writer Huon Hooke will be enjoying a range of accommodation throughout Robe...and some truly wonderful wines.
"The 2010 vintage in the Limestone Coast was excellent, and we look forward to seeing those wines along with some stunning entries from earlier vintages," says Sarah. "This is a wonderful opportunity for producers to not only have their own top drops rated beside their regional peers but to have them judged at a national and international level."
A record 76 exhibitors from across the region took part in last year's show. This year's event is expected to eclipse that figure, with the introduction of a 'Small Batch Class' for new and innovative wines attracting considerable attention. The required minimum volume is 25 cases (225L) production at time of entry, and the class is open to table wine styles up to five years old which are commercially available but not necessarily labelled.
"These include fermentation, barrel and vineyard trials, so we urge all producers to have a go as they could unearth some more Limestone Coast wine legends," says Sarah. "But they will need to get in quick – entries close in nine days!"
